An Experimental Study on Ocular Injury after Intravitreal Injection of Lidocaine to Rabbit

Abstract
|
|
|
To study the effects of inadvertantly injected intravitreal lidocaine on eye, we experimentally injected lidocaine and normal saline into the vitreous cavity of rabbit eye.
@ES The results were as followings.
@EN 1) The rise in intraocular pressure (IOP) was associated with the amount of injected lidocaine into vitreous. And early changes of electroretinogram was owing to retinal ischemia of increased IOP.
2) When mixed solution of lidocaine and epinephrine was injected, retinal ischemia was prolonged due to their pharmacologic effect.
3) Intravitreally injected lidocaine did not cause any histo-pathologic change of retina on light microscopy.
4) Transient rise of IOP due to some amount of intravitreal injection did not cause any histopathologic change of retina on light microscopy.
